HOCUS POCUS HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL STRIKES AGAIN

There is a distinct sense of mischief in the air as Halloween approaches and children sense their once a year opportunity to create mayhem is just around the corner.  Children lucky enough to grow up in the Bulimba Bubble know that Hocus Pocus Halloween Festival will soon allow them to let their inner gremlins run amok at Bulimba Memorial Park as the usually green and pleasant field runs blood red, orange and black with some of the scariest ghouls and zombies in Brisbane.

Hocus Pocus in the Park has been running for 6 years and has become a regular date for pre-schoolers through to high-schoolers.  The festival, which is always and only held on Halloween, started out as a low-key idea to offer smaller children a safe experience of ‘Trick or Treat’ without the need to turn Stranger Danger on its head by encouraging them to knock on strangers doors for one night only asking for lollies.  The Halloween event has been taken to heart by local kids and has built a significant following of returning mummies and walking dead of all ages and from as far afield as the Gold Coast in recent years.

This year the festival is set to evolve to appeal to the whole family, not just those still at school.  To make a night of it for families with little time to cook after the spookfest several food stalls will be joining the line-up. In addition to the traditional school sausage sizzle which will be run by Morningside State School P&F this year,  Hocus Pocus 2018 is introducing a number of other food options including calamari and chips, dumplings, crepes, ice-creams and slushies. The Three Bulimba Broomsticks, our new safe haven for parents not in fancy dress, will also be serving locally made, award-winning beer from Revel Brewing or a glass of wine for parents keen to stay out of the way of their revelling marauders.

As always, our fabulous sponsors have made sure there’s plenty of free entertainment on offer from lip-synching along with DJ Elektra through to the incredible inflatable obstacle courses provided by locally owned Astrojump.  We’ll also have a giant slippery dip, The Worm and other activities to keep little goblins and fairies alike entertained.  Many of our sponsors will also be running activities from devilish ducks to facepainting, slime and more.  There will be prizes for best costumes and groups broken down into Kids, Babies and Grownups so whatever your age, there’s no excuse for not getting your groove on!

Hocus Pocus is produced by Bulimba Business and would not be possible without support from Cr Kara Cooke and the Lord Mayor’s Suburban Initiative Fund.  We would also like to thanks our Gold Sponsors AstrojumpAussie BulimbaBrisbane Airport CorporationPlace Estate Agents,  SpringFree Trampolines and Velocity Property Group.  Photographs generously provided by sponsor Bulimba Studios.
